The studio: five people at one long table in Kallio
Studio Kallio is a small practice in a former corner shop in Kallio, Helsinki. The street window shows whatever model we are working on; the back room holds the plotter, the model workshop and the coffee machine.
Who you will work with
Every project has one lead architect from the first meeting to handover, with the rest of the studio around the table when needed.

How we work with others
Buildings need more than architects. We bring structural, HVAC, electrical, acoustic and landscape designers we have worked with before, or we join the team you already have. Everyone works on one shared model, and we coordinate it.
Contractors get drawings and specifications precise enough to price without guessing, and a named architect who answers their questions.
The room
We still build models by hand: cardboard and birch plywood for massing, larger ones for details that are easier to understand in three dimensions. Clients are welcome to see their project on the table. Visits by appointment, Monday to Friday.
How a working day runs
Mornings are for drawing; afternoons for meetings, site visits and calls. Every Monday we go through all live projects together, so everyone knows what is on the table and someone else can answer for us during holidays.
Languages
We work in Finnish, English and Swedish. Drawings for permits are in Finnish or Swedish as the municipality requires; meeting notes and explanations can be in any of the three.
Join us
We take one architecture student for a summer placement each year. Send a short portfolio as a PDF to hello@studiokallio.example in February.
